Tonight I listened to Anna Schultz, octogenarian survivor of the atrocities of World War II, tell the story of the horrors, fear, starvation and trials she endured. As a young girl in Germany, she first defied the Nazi regime by refusing to join the Nazi Youth Organization, for which she was ostracized by teachers and peers alike. Her strong and stubborn spirit kept her going as she travelled from one German border to the next, in and out of Poland and Western Prussia as she tried to avoid first the Nazis and then the Russians, even the British, since all millitary were feared. She survived air raids, bitter cold, near starvation, traveling through forests on bloody feet, escaping from a burning building, trains that were bombed and suffering much sickness including dyptheria. Her life is a testament to the victory of good over evil, of the great power of love for family, and the the fact that God does watch over us and is mindful of us in all of our trials. It was so good to hear her...it gave me encouragment to keep on in the good fight!
